On November 24, Abdulrahman Kanoo International School, organized an International Diabetes Awareness Day in collaboration with RCSI Bahrain Mobile Diabetes Unit for students in Grade 3 to create awareness about World Diabetes Day under the theme “Access to Education”.
“Established in 2012, the Mobile Diabetes Unit is an RCSI Bahrain Community Outreach initiative run in collaboration with the School of Nursing and Midwifery and Bahrain Diabetes Society (BDS), with support from the Rotary Club of Manama. The main aim of the unit is to educate children about the prevention and management of diabetes and its related issues.” “Notes Bayan RCSI undergraduate student and ARKIS alumni”
Before the end of the sessions, the school children at the end, were able to demonstrate the learning objectives of the program, provided through various health promotion activities and educational sessions.
Mr. Naser Altooblani, the Growth Mindset Team Leader at ARKIS said: “Students and those who just found out they have diabetes face a plethora of psychological and physical demands as a result of diabetes management. Recent research has found that schools are a crucial predictor of self-esteem in self-care management for individuals with Diabetes. And since kids spend nearly half their waking hours in school, reliable and interactive diabetes education programs such as the RCSI Diabetes Mobile Unit become imperative to ensure the wellbeing of children with diabetes.”
